Who are you? Write your personal contract

After watching Jay Shetty last night at his show Love Rules, I wanted to share some reflections. Mainly to help anyone struggling a little, as recently, things have felt a bit heavy based on some of the things I’ve read on my timelines.

Without giving away too much of the show, my most significant reflection point was the discussion around self-love. As a confidence coach, I often work with my coachees on their self-belief and self-esteem first. Because if you don’t respect yourself and advocate for your value, you won’t be able to commit to what you want to achieve fully. Whether that’s on a personal or a professional level.

Jay shared a quote which I’m paraphrasing, but he said that we spend too much of our time focusing on what we think others think about us, which then reflects on how we feel about ourselves.

I couldn’t have agreed harder. Our energy can sometimes be so consumed by other people that we forget who we are. What are our passions, purpose and dreams? What’s stopping us from doing what we need to do? Where did our self-limiting behaviours come from?

With so much distraction around us, we don’t give ourselves the time to answer those questions or think deeply about who we are.

I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing today if I didn’t take time five years ago to reset and create a personal contract with myself.

My contract said:

Never let anyone make you feel less than your worth
Don’t be afraid of taking opportunities. If you fail, you’ll learn, and if you succeed, you’ll learn.
Take time for yourself without the guilt
Be comfortable with being uncomfortable
Other people’s opinions of you don’t matter as long as you stayed true to your values
Always celebrate your successes without shame
Remember you can’t be everyone’s cup of tea otherwise you’d be a mug

So take some time today to write your contract and reset your boundaries – promise it’ll make a difference.

Have you ever written a contract for yourself? Will you give it a go?

Thanks for a great show, Jay Shetty!
